A single bad year can be chance. These locations recorded multiple collisions in at least four of the last five years — evidence of a road layout problem that hasn’t been fixed, not bad luck. If they were dangerous every year since 2021, they’re dangerous now.

How we built this
The analysis uses the Department for Transport’s official STATS19 dataset — every collision reported to the police in Great Britain over the last five years (2021–2025), published under the Open Government Licence. We grouped collisions into ~100-metre clusters and labelled each with its road and locality using OpenStreetMap. A location counts as persistently dangerous if it recorded two or more collisions in at least four of the five years. The 2026 outlook is a least-squares trend projection of each area’s five-year collision counts — a modelled estimate, clearly distinct from the measured figures. Police-validated data for a year is published by DfT roughly nine months after the year ends; this page ingests each new release (including provisional in-year data) automatically.
STATS19 only includes collisions reported to the police, so minor damage-only incidents are undercounted. Cluster labels identify the nearest named road and may span a junction of several roads.
