From there, they drive away in a car that believes its owner is at the wheel. It's the second pillar of modern car theft alongside relay attacks, and it particularly affects popular models whose programmers circulate cheaply.
Manufacturers can't remove the port — it's legally required for servicing — so the defence has to be physical.
