The best Faraday pouches and boxes — and how to prove yours works

Any dual-layer pouch that passes the door-handle test works — the brand matters less than testing it on arrival and every few months. Buy a box for the hallway and a pouch per keyholder, and spend the £15–20 total without agonising.

How we rank

The criteria — and what we don't do

  • Dual-layer shielding fabric only — single-layer pouches weaken with daily flexing
  • The only rating that matters is your own test: key inside, stand beside the car, pull the handle. Locked door = working pouch. Ten seconds, do it on arrival and quarterly.
  • Replace yearly with daily use — the lining fatigues before the fabric looks worn
  • Prices indicative at publish (August 2026). No placement fees, no stock held.

Ratings referenced are Sold Secure's and Thatcham's own — verify the current listing at soldsecure.com before buying. Police forces consistently report relay attacks among the leading methods for stealing modern cars — the pouch is the £10 counter to the whole technique. Questions

Before you buy

How do I know if my Faraday pouch has stopped working?

Repeat the door-handle test: key in the pouch, stand at the car, try the door. If it opens, the lining has failed — replace it. Phones make a second check: a phone sealed inside shouldn't ring.

Does my car need one?

If it unlocks when the key is near without pressing anything, yes — it's relay-attackable. Our vehicle crime pages show how concentrated theft is around residential streets; the pouch removes your car from the method entirely.

Are metal tins as good?

A sealed metal tin can work but leaks signal at the lid seam and no one keeps testing it. Purpose-made dual-layer pouches seal properly and fold shut the same way every time — and they cost a tenner.
