The best motorcycle disc locks — alarmed, rated, and actually pocketable
Get an alarmed one: most bikes are lifted silently, and 110dB removes the silence. A top-rated alarmed lock like the Artago 30 is the benchmark; the Oxford Screamer class does the core job for a fifth of the money.

Ratings are Sold Secure's and Thatcham's own, checked September 2026. Sold Secure lists only six automotive steering wheel locks; a product can also hold a Thatcham category without being in the Sold Secure database, which is not the same thing. Before you buy
Disc lock or chain — if I can only buy one?
Match it to where the bike sleeps. Home on the street: chain and anchor first. Secure garage at home but parked out all day: disc lock first. They defend different attacks — the full answer is both, about £120 total.
Do alarmed disc locks false-trigger?
Decent ones arm with sensitivity that ignores vibration and wind but fires on lifting or rolling. Expect one accidental blast while you learn the arming routine — cheap tuition.
Where should the lock sit on the disc?
As close to the caliper as it fits, so the wheel jams almost immediately — and always with the bright reminder cable running to the bar.
