Motorbike accident claims: how much compensation could you get?
Injured on two wheels? Your claim isn't capped by the car whiplash tariff.
Motorcyclists are classed in law as a 'vulnerable road user' — which means a motorbike injury claim isn't subject to the fixed whiplash tariff or the £5,000 small claims limit that applies to car occupants. If another driver caused your crash, we connect you with a specialist solicitor who can pursue full compensation for your injuries, your bike and your losses.
What motorbike injury compensation is actually worth
Because riders are exempt from the fixed whiplash tariff, motorbike injuries are valued individually against the Judicial College Guidelines — the figures courts use. As a guide: a simple arm fracture with full recovery sits around £8,000–£23,000; serious leg fractures £34,000–£67,000; a severe ankle injury £61,000–£85,000; life-changing head injuries can exceed £400,000. Vehicle damage, kit (helmet, leathers), lost earnings and care costs are then claimed on top. The medical report fixes where in each bracket you land — which is why no early offer should be accepted before it.
Riders face the worst odds on the road — our data shows where
Our analysis of official DfT records found 14,959 collisions involving motorcyclists in 2025 alone — and 5,905 of them (nearly 4 in 10) left the rider killed or seriously injured, a far higher serious-outcome rate than car occupants. See exactly where riders are most at risk on our motorcyclist danger map, built from five years of police collision records.
Not tariff-capped
Because you weren't a car occupant, the 2021 whiplash reforms don't cap your compensation on a fixed scale — your injury is valued individually, on its own facts.
Bike, kit & repairs
Damage to your motorcycle, helmet, leathers and other riding kit is recovered alongside any injury claim.
Replacement transport
If your bike is off the road, we help arrange interim transport so you're not stuck.
Serious injury support
Motorcyclists are killed at a far higher rate per mile than any other road user — we connect you with solicitors experienced in fracture, road-rash and more serious motorcycle injury claims.
No win, no fee

Common questions.
How much compensation will I get for a motorbike accident?+
It depends on the injury’s severity and how long it affects you, valued against the Judicial College Guidelines: roughly £2,700–£15,000 for minor injuries with full recovery, £8,000–£67,000 for fractures depending on the bone and complications, and six figures for life-changing injuries. Bike damage, kit, lost earnings and care are added on top of the injury award.
Does the whiplash tariff apply to motorbike accident claims?+
No. The Civil Liability Act's whiplash tariff and the £5,000 small claims limit only apply to occupants of a car, van or other four-wheeled motor vehicle. Motorcyclists and pillion passengers are 'vulnerable road users' and are specifically excluded, so your claim is valued in the normal way, without a fixed cap.
Can I claim for damage to my bike, helmet and leathers?+
Yes — alongside any injury claim, you can recover the cost of repairing or replacing your motorcycle and riding kit damaged in the accident, as part of your overall claim against the at-fault driver's insurer.
What if the other driver says I came out of nowhere?+
This is one of the most common disputes in motorbike claims. Dashcam or helmet-cam footage, witness statements and the police collision report are all used to establish what actually happened — don't accept blame at the scene.
How long do I have to claim?+
Generally three years from the date of the accident, though it's best to start as early as possible while evidence is fresh.
