Accident checklist — Swift Assist

• Stop and switch on hazard lights; move to safety if you can
• Check yourself and passengers for injuries
• Call 999 if anyone is hurt or the road is blocked
• Don't admit fault — stick to exchanging facts
• Take the other vehicle's registration, make, model and colour
• Get the other driver's name, phone number and insurer
• Photograph both vehicles, the damage and the road layout
• Note names and numbers of any independent witnesses
• Record the time, date, weather and exact location
• Report to the police within 24 hours if details weren't exchanged
• Notify your insurer that an incident happened
